Milestones

UDDI first was proposed in 2000; it currently stands at its third major revision. Over this time, it has evolved to reflect the need for manageability and federated control in enterprise operating scenarios, as well as to further integrate the standard with other elements of service-oriented infrastructure. Significant milestones in the development and adoption of UDDI include:

September 2006
UDDI XML.org Focus Area Launched
The UDDI home on the web is relaunched with enhanced content and community collaboration features.

Feb 2005
UDDI Version 3.0.2 Ratified as OASIS Standard
This significant update provides key capabilities for enterprise-level deployment, including registry interaction. Its feature definitions are stable and backwards-compatible with earlier versions of the standard.

Nov 2004
Users and Vendors Demonstrate Support for UDDI OASIS Standard at Gartner Web Services Summit
Representatives from The Hartford and Charles Schwab presented details on their company's implementation of UDDI registries as core foundation components of their SOA. OASIS UDDI Specification Technical Committee members staged a live demo incorporating UDDI product offerings from IBM, Oracle, SAP, Systinet, and others in a business scenario.

May 2003
UDDI Version 2.0 Ratified as OASIS Standard
OASIS members formally ratify UDDI v2, with features that include business relationships and external taxonomy validation.

Jul 2002
UDDI.org Transitions Work to OASIS
OASIS members form technical committee to advance the specification and to promote a consistent, unified approach to the development and implementation of UDDI.

Aug 2000
UDDI.org Formed
Ariba, IBM, and Microsoft jointly propose a set of XML-based interfaces to maintain an online database of business Web services.

UDDI 101

The Universal Description, Discovery, and Integration (UDDI) protocol is an approved OASIS Standard and a key member of the Web services stack. It defines a standard method for publishing and discovering the network-based software components of a service-oriented architecture (SOA). UDDI is advanced by the OASIS UDDI Specification Technical Committee.

Language Options

OASIS seeks to better serve the international community by providing XML.org content in as many languages as possible. The XML.org interface, which is based on the Drupal open source content management platform, supports a variety of languages and character sets. Registered XML.org users are able to set their viewing preference to any supported language.
